Sports Therapy and Sports Massage
Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare which examines, diagnose and treats sporting related and musculoskeletal injuries. It is also concerned with the prevention of injury and prehabilitation/rehabilitation exercise prescription.
Sports Massage is used to help to lengthen and increase the flexibility in your muscles and improve blood circulation to help remove the waste products that build up in your muscles. Waste products known as lactate and lymph not only build up when we train in the gym, run 10KM or marathons, but also build up through stresses at work, sitting and driving for long periods of time. So sports massage isn’t only suitable for world class athletes, it is suitable for all of us!
Sophie graduated from The University of Hertfordshire in 2009. She works with a variety of abilities and ages - from GB Olympic and World class athletes to the recreational walker. Sophie has a wide knowledge of sporting related injuries and how to treat them; she treats every client’s needs as individual and specific and strives to get you back to full fitness as quick as possible. This may be returning to train for an Olympic/International event, competing in County championships, returning to your weekly circuits/gym class or being able to return to work. Sophie's approach is multi-disciplinary where, if she feels necessary will refer you to see an Osteopath, Podiatrist or for further investigation such as an MRI scan or X-ray.
Sports Therapy can help with:
- Muscle injuries and pain (muscle strains, tendon injuries, contusions, haematomas)
- Joint Injuries (ligaments, meniscal damage)
- Sporting Injuries such as Achilles pain, 'Shin Splints', Plantar Fasciosis
- Sciatica pain
- Back and neck pain
- Pre and Post operative Care (arthroscopies, joint replacements)
- Adolescent sporting injuries (Sever's disease, Osgood Schlatters disease)
